One of the most versatile players in program history, Weddle starred at Utah from 2003-06 before going on to play 14 seasons in the NFL.

Inductees are enshrined with their names prominently displayed on the press box of Rice-Eccles Stadium. Weddle, a native of Fontana, California, is also a member of the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class.

He capped his collegiate career as a consensus first-team All-American in 2006 and helped the program to a 37-12 record over his four seasons, highlighted by an undefeated campaign in 2004 and bowl victories in each of his four years.

Weddle was back-to-back Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year (2005, 2006).

Weddle holds the Utah record for career forced fumbles (9) and ranks second all-time in interceptions (18). He holds the distinction as the first player in Utah history to score on back-to-back plays from scrimmage.

Weddle finished his Utah career with 277 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 18 interceptions, 23 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries (including two returned for a touchdown). He rushed 52 times for 259 yards and six touchdowns, returned 52 punts for 408 yards and had two passing completions for 43 yards and a touchdown.

He was selected in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers and played 14 seasons in the league with the Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams. He was twice named a First Team All-Pro and won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams.

BYU’s Dybantsa named Big 12 athlete of year

IRVING, Texas – BYU’s AJ Dybantsa was named the 2025-26 Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year on Thursday morning, marking the first time a Cougar has won the prestigious award.

Dybantsa becomes the fourth basketball player to earn the award since 2020 and eighth overall. TCU’s Olivia Miles was named the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year.

The Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year, Dybantsa led the nation in scoring, finishing with the third-most points scored by a freshman in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history, at 894. He scored in double figures in all 35 games as a Cougar, including a BYU freshman record 43-point performance in a win over rival Utah at the Marriott Center.

He became the third Cougar to be named a consensus First Team All-American after averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. The 6-foot-9 forward is one of two players in Big 12 history with a 30-10-10 triple-double following his 33-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance in a win over Eastern Washington.

The Washington Wizards selected Dybantsa with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft in June.
