Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton, center, loses the ball as Utah defensive end Jason Fanaika delivers a hit on Sept. 11, 2015, in Salt Lake City.

The eighth-most-played football series in the western United States will pick up a few more editions in the future.

Utah and Utah State announced they’ll play a home-and-home football series in 2031 and 2033. Those will piggyback off a trip USU was set to make to Salt Lake City in 2031, which is now moved to 2030. That moved game is part of a 2-for-1 series that also has USU playing at Utah in 2026.

So come 2030, the Utes and Aggies will play three games over four seasons, starting with the 2030 game in SLC, a 2031 matchup in Logan, and the 2033 game in SLC.

“Bringing a premier in-state opponent to Maverik Stadium creates an electric atmosphere,” USU athletic director Cameron Walker said in a statement. “In-state matchups energize our fan base, create meaningful experiences for our student-athletes, and are good for the entire state. We look forward to Aggie football competing at the highest level moving forward.”

The series has been played 113 times; Utah holds an 80-29-4 advantage.

The moves give Utah all home games in the 2030 nonconference slate; the Utes also host UCLA and Utah Tech that season.

MAMMOTH SIGN 2; KELLER HONORED

The Utah Mammoth recently announced a contract extension for Michael Carcone and the signing of draft pick Caleb Desnoyers to his entry-level NHL contract.

Carcone, 29, is now locked up for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons at an average annual value of $1.75 million, the team announced.

“He’s a hard-working, skilled forward that plays fast and with an edge,” general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement. “He provides valuable offense to our team.”

Carcone has 14 goals and 12 assists in 68 games this season. With 80 points, the Mammoth (37-28-6) are in fifth place in the Western Conference with 11 games left in the regular season.

Desnoyers, an 18-year-old forward, was Utah’s first-round draft pick (fourth overall) in 2025. The team signed him to a three-year entry contract, beginning next season. He’s totaled 22 goals and 56 assists in 45 games with the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

With the Mammoth’s entry into the Utah sports scene, team captain Clayton Keller becomes the team’s first player to be named Utah’s professional male athlete of the year, an award handed out annually since 2012 by the Utah Sports Commission.

The team announced Keller’s honor Monday; several award-winners are yet to be named. The yearly winners are typically honored at the State of Sport Awards each fall.

BYU WOMEN ROUT MISSOURI

Delaney Gibb scored 29 points and shot 7 of 11 from the 3-point line, adding eight rebounds and six assists. Olivia Hamlin added 23 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Kambree Barber totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds.

BYU (24-11) advances to the quarterfinals and will host Stanford (21-13) on Thursday. With a win, BYU would head to the semifinals on March 30; the final four is hosted by Wichita State.
