Weber State runners Billie Hatch (97) and Summer Allen (93) race during the Big Sky cross country championship meet Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, in Hillsboro, Ore.

Weber State’s power running couple rose to the top Friday as the Big Sky Conference staged its cross country championship meets in Hillsboro, Oregon.

And, the Wildcat women took second as a team thanks to high finishes from two seniors.

Billie Hatch finished second and Summer Allen third in the women’s 5K to lead the WSU women to a second-place finish. Hatch ran the course at the Meriwether National Golf Club in 16:32.5 and Allen in 16:33, just a moment behind Northern Arizona’s Taryn O’Neill (16:31.6) in first.

Christian Allen was the top finisher for the WSU men, also taking third with a time of 23:18.2 in the men’s 8K.

Those three Wildcats, and sophomore woman Rylie Lusk, who took ninth at 16:50.9, earned all-conference honors for their finishes.

As expected, Northern Arizona took both team titles and also claimed both individual medalist honors.

With 51 points, the Weber State women’s team took second to NAU (37) and was a considerable margin ahead of third-place Portland State (95). Seniors Cheyenne Leatham (17:11.3) and Bailey Wall (17:13.8) finished 18th and 19th as the women’s next-best finishers behind Lusk.

Weber State’s men’s team finished fourth overall. Behind Christian Allen, their next-best finish was junior Taylor Dillon (24:06) in 13th place.

Next up for Weber State cross country teams is the NCAA mountain regional championship set for Nov. 12 in Provo.
