By Brett Hein - | Sep 23, 2021

Weber State volleyball snapped a three-game skid and opened its Big Sky Conference title defense Thursday night at Swenson Gym by topping Portland State in four sets.

The Wildcats ran their home win streak to 20 matches, each victory adding to an all-time program record, topping the Vikings 25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 25-14.

Since starting conference play 2-4 in the 2019 season, Weber State is 27-2 in its last 29 regular-season conference matches.

Weber State (6-5, 1-0 Big Sky) raced to a quick 2-0 lead Thursday before Portland State (6-6, 0-1) responded by taking a tough third set.

PSU took an early lead in set four and held a lead as late as 10-9, but WSU took over. The Wildcats won 16 of the final 20 points, including nine of the last 10, to finish out the victory.

With two kills from Sam Schiess, Rylin Adams served three aces in a final stretch of six straight points, including an ace on match point, to seal it.

Adams led WSU with 17 points, including 11 kills and five aces, with 11 digs. Ashlyn Power also served five aces, adding 38 assists and 17 digs.

Dani Nay totaled 13 kills and Schiess added 10 kills and five blocks. Emma Mangum led WSU with seven blocks.

Weber State next hosts Sacramento State at 2 p.m. Saturday in Swenson Gym.
