Dallas Mavericks guard Jerrick Harding (19) drives past Chicago Bulls player Carlick Jones (26) during an NBA summer league basketball game Friday, July 8, 2022, in Las Vegas.

Jerrick Harding might not be a household name to those who usually watch NBA Summer League games but late Monday night, Weber State basketball fans saw something pretty familiar.

In a Summer League game with the Dallas Mavericks, Harding lit up the Utah Jazz for 12 first-quarter points (matching Utah’s team output) on his way to 18 points over 23 minutes during an 83-82 Jazz victory in Las Vegas.

It wasn’t just that Harding scored 12 points all in the quarter’s final 5 minutes, 34 seconds, but it looked how WSU fans might remember the program’s all-time leading scorer: a driving floater over 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall, several mid-range stepback jumpers and a smooth pull-up 3 in transition.

Harding shot 8 of 14 and added one rebound, two assists and one steal Monday night. It was his second game with the Mavs; in a July 8 game against the Chicago Bulls, Harding totaled four points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Former WSU guard Isiah Brown got his first taste of NBA Summer League on July 9, joining former Utah State forward Justin Bean in playing the final three minutes of the Los Angeles’ Clippers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Brown grabbed two rebounds in his stint.

Harding and Brown were both in action again in late-night games Tuesday.

WSU SCHEDULE TIDBITS

As previously reported by the Standard-Examiner, Weber State men’s basketball signed in May to play in a new multi-team event held in Henderson, Nevada — a Las Vegas suburb — currently called the Vegas Championship.

Tuesday, WAC Hoops Digest and Rocco Miller reported Abilene Christian and Wright State are also on board for the Vegas Championship. No participating schools or BD Global, the event’s organizer, have publicly announced details of the event.

Per records obtained by the Standard-Examiner, Weber State will play three games from Nov. 21-23 at The Dollar Loan Center, a new arena in Henderson where the Big West Conference played its conference basketball tournaments in March.

Abilene Christian won 25 games last season, finishing No. 131 in Ken Pomeroy’s efficiency rating. Wright State won 22 games and finished 172nd, two spots ahead of Weber State.

Weber State’s officially finalized games include those three games, a home contest against Utah Tech, and road game at BYU, Colorado State, Tarleton State and Utah State.
