As most college basketball players are on campus and summer workouts roll on, the final touches on game schedules are being put in place.

One such game now finalized for Weber State men’s basketball is its 2022-23 season opener, which will take place Monday, Nov. 7, at the University of Washington.

The recently inked game will pay WSU $95,000 to open the regular season in Seattle, according to documents obtained via public records request. Weber State has played Washington just once all-time, a road loss in 2006.

The game adds to an increasingly difficult road slate for first-year head coach Eric Duft.

The Wildcats are now set to play Washington, BYU, Utah State and Colorado State on the road this season. Weber State plays at Colorado State a week after Washington, a Monday, Nov. 14, game set to pay WSU $80,000. WSU will play at BYU on Dec. 22 and the date for the matchup at USU is not yet official. The Wildcats also return a game to Tarleton State on Nov. 29.

At home, the Wildcats are contracted to play Utah Tech on a date not yet made official. The addition of Washington means Weber State has up to four more nonconference games left to officially finalize. The Wildcats are likely to play a home exhibition the week prior to traveling to Washington, then play their home opener later in the season’s opening week.

Per previous Standard-Examiner reporting, Weber State is also slated to play in a new multi-team event in Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas. Tentatively being called the Vegas Championship, the three-game event will be held Nov. 21-23 at a new arena called The Dollar Loan Center where the Big West Conference held its conference tournaments in March. WSU will play three games against mid-majors at the event. Wright State and Abilene Christian are also reported to be in the field.

The Big Sky Conference announced its 18-game league schedule two weeks ago. WSU opens the full, double-round-robin slate with home games against Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31.

The Big Sky tournaments are scheduled to begin Saturday, March 4, at Idaho Central Arena in Boise.

Weber State football is also contracted to play at Washington for the 2024 season opener.
