Weber State volleyball sweeps Idaho, EWU to move into 1st place

Weber State women’s volleyball moved into first place in the Big Sky Conference with home sweeps over Idaho and Eastern Washington on Thursday and Saturday in Swenson Gym.

The Wildcats (15-8) improved to 9-3 in Big Sky play with the victories. WSU is tied for first place with Northern Colorado (15-8, 9-3). Those two moved ahead of Portland State (14-10, 9-4) after the Vikings lost Saturday at Montana State in five sets.

Thursday against Idaho (4-20, 1-11), the Wildcats prevailed 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 by hitting .243 as a team.

Dani Richins (13) and Brielle Rueckert (10) had double-digit kills. Emma Mangum and Baylee Bodily each had three blocks, Kate Standifird totaled 29 assists, Makayla Sorensen had 11 digs and Macy Sumrall served two aces.

Saturday night against Eastern Washington (9-15, 4-8), WSU claimed victory 26-24, 25-20, 25-19. Ashley Gneiting led with 12 kills. Standifird served three aces and passed 33 assists, and Rueckert racked up six blocks. Sorensen (12), Richins (11) and Standifird (10) each had double-digit digs.

With four matches left in the regular season, Weber State next hits the road for matches at ninth-place Northern Arizona and first-place Northern Colorado.
