Members of the Weber State women's tennis team shout as they prepare to place a sticker on a bracket board as champions of the Big Sky Conference tournament Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Phoenix.

Weber State women’s tennis went 6-2 in team competition during this year’s Big Sky Conference schedule. One of those two losses was a 4-3 road defeat to eventual No. 1 seed Northern Arizona in late February.

The two squads met again for a rematch Saturday in the Big Sky tournament championship round — again in Arizona, this time in Phoenix — where Weber State won by a 4-2 team score to claim its first Big Sky tournament title since 2000.

Though Ana Morett and Megan Davis won a doubles match, Northern Arizona won the other two to claim that single team point for the Lumberjacks, earning a 1-0 lead in the team score.

Weber State then dominated singles play, where points are earned for each of the six matches (making a total of seven points available).

Morett defeated NAU’s Sofia Markova 6-2, 6-3 and Davies topped Ana Guadiana 6-1, 4-6, 6-0. WSU’s Megan Lombardi put NAU against the wall, rallying for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Pat Niewiadomska that put Weber State up 3-1 in the team score.

With WSU’s Dylan Lolofie locked 1-1 with Laura Duhl in a third set, her finale match went unfinished as teammate Kenadee Semenik swept Ava Neyestani 6-2, 6-4 to put Weber State ahead 4-2 and clinch the team victory for the Wildcats.

As the No. 2 seed, Weber State byed into the semifinals Friday where the Wildcats topped No. 3 Portland State 4-3 to advance.

Weber State’s NCAA Tournament destination will come at 4 p.m. MDT Monday when the NCAA announces tournament selections via press release and a video stream on NCAA.com. Individual player selections to the national tournament will be announced Tuesday.

The NCAA Tournament begins May 5. First- and second-rounds are contested May 5-7, and super regionals May 12-13, all on campus sites. The team finals are May 17-20 and singles and doubles finals May 22-27, both at the United States Tennis Association’s national campus in Orlando, Florida.

Starting at $4.32/week.
