For the seventh straight season, Weber State football is ranked in a national preseason poll.

Weber State is No. 13 in the STATS Perform FCS preseason poll unveiled this week, as ranked by 56 voters who are members of the media or league offices from across the country.

Weber State, which has posted eight consecutive winning seasons, is one of six teams from the Big Sky to be ranked in the preseason poll. Six is the most from any conference, and all six are in the top 16 of the voting.

Big Sky teams in the poll are: No. 3 Montana State, No. 8 Idaho, No. 10 Sacramento State, No. 13 Weber State, No. 14 Montana and No. 16 UC Davis. WSU plays Montana State, Idaho and UC Davis this season.

Defending champion South Dakota State was unanimously voted No. 1.

Weber State’s Week 2 opponent, Northern Iowa, is ranked No. 23.

WSU SOCCER 3RD IN BIG SKY

Weber State women’s soccer is ranked third in the Big Sky Conference’s preseason poll, as voted by the league’s coaches.

The Wildcats went 4-4 in the Big Sky last season and made the conference tournament semifinals, losing in a penalty kick shootout to eventual champion and this season’s preseason No. 1 in Northern Arizona.

WSU hosts Utah Valley in an exhibition Saturday before opening the 2023 season Thursday, Aug. 17, at Utah State.
