Bonneville High alum Summer Diamond helped Utah State handle Weber State from start to finish Thursday evening in Logan in the NCAA women’s soccer season opener for both sides.

Diamond became the first player in USU’s program history to score twice in a season opener as the Aggies downed the Wildcats 5-1.

Diamond scored on a corner kick in the fourth minute and tracked a long pass and scored near the 35th minute.

Syracuse High alum and freshman Abby Schofield also netted for Utah State, scoring the game’s finisher in the 67th minute.

USU senior London Miller-Smith put in a penalty kick in the 26th minute.

Sophomore midfielder and Northern Arizona transfer Mikayla Topaum headed a cross into the net for Weber State’s lone goal in the 32nd minute, which made it a 3-1 tally at halftime.

Tenzi Knowles scored in the first minute out of the locker room for USU before Schofield’s goal made it a 5-1 final.
