Weber State announced its five-person 2023 Hall of Fame class Thursday, including Northern Utah locals Sarah Callister Sellers (track and field/cross country), Nicky Wangsgard (women’s tennis/basketball) and Seth Pilkington (track/cross country), along with Ann Millner (former president) and the late Trevyn Smith (football).

The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 22, at the Eccles Conference Center in Ogden. The new class will also be honored at the home football game against Montana State the next day.

Below is a rundown of each new Hall of Famer.

SARAH CALLISTER SELLERS

An Ogden native and Ogden High alumnus, Sellers competed at Weber State from 2009-13 as Sarah Callister, leaving with several records and championships, then became the Utah native with the best-ever finish at the Boston Marathon.

She is the only female distance runner in Weber State history to win a conference championship in the same event three times, and she accomplished that feat twice. Sellers won the outdoor Big Sky title in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters in each of her first three seasons.

Sellers is also the only athlete in WSU history to be an Academic All-American three times.

She also won conference championships in the indoor 5,000 meters (twice) and 3,000 meters, and helped WSU to three team conference championships overall.

She finished second among women at the 2018 Boston Marathon.

SETH PILKINGTON

The Roy native and Roy High alumnus was a five-time All-American and five-time conference champion in three years at Weber State from 2005-08. After starting his career at Oregon, he transferred to Illinois where his father, Paul, was coaching, then joined Paul at Weber State.

He was an All-American twice in cross country, twice in outdoor track and once in indoor. He’s the only WSU runner to be an All-American in all three, and one of two to be a cross country All-American twice. He still ranks first in WSU history in the indoor 3,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters.

In 2006, he finished fourth in the country in the outdoor 10,000 meters. He was a two-time Academic All-American in cross country.

NICKY WANGSGARD

An Ogden native and Ogden High graduate, Wangsgard began her career at Kentucky before transferring to Weber State to compete from 1992-95. She was the Big Sky women’s tennis MVP in 1993 and 1994, and won the conference’s No. 1 singles title in 1993. WSU won the team title in both of those seasons as well.

Wangsgard also played three seasons for the women’s basketball team, totaling 72 career games and leading WSU in scoring in the 1993-94 season.

Wangsgard then enjoyed a 10-year professional cycling career, including competing in two World Cups.

She has taught human development at Southern Utah University since 2006 and earned a status as a full professor last year.

TREVYN SMITH

The late Trevyn Smith made history as a four-time All-Big Sky Conference first-team selection, was a two-time All-American and his career rushing total is still No. 1 for Weber State football, competing from 2006-09.

The native of Springville, Utah, is the only player in WSU football history to rush for 1,000 yards or more in four seasons, totaling 5,029 career rushing yards and 43 touchdowns for the Wildcats. He helped lead WSU to the 2008 Big Sky championship and played on two teams that qualified for the FCS Playoffs.

In 2008, Smith ran for 1,585 yards and 21 touchdowns as WSU ended a 21-year playoff drought. His total of 28 all-purpose touchdowns is still tied for most in a season in Big Sky history.

Only three times has a WSU player totaled 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards in a game, and Smith accounts for two of those.

Smith died in July 2019.

ANN MILLNER

Millner was the 11th president of Weber State University, working in that role from 2002-12, after nearly 20 years of working at the university. She was the first woman to be named a university president in the state of Utah.

WSU won 30 conference championships in her tenure, which included the rebirth of the softball program and the new field to go with it, along with facility upgrades across athletics.

Millner has been elected to the Utah State Senate, representing parts of the greater Ogden area, since 2015.
