Weber State women’s basketball blasted in first-quarter rout at Oregon State

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Nov 29, 2023

Oregon State women’s basketball outscored Weber State 30-9 in the first quarter on the way to a 79-53 victory Wednesday afternoon in Corvallis, Oregon.

The game completes a stretch for Weber State (0-7) of seven straight road games to start the season. WSU has lost 11 straight games dating back to last season and still seeks its first win under new head coach Jenteal Jackson.

The Beavers (5-0) started the game on a 12-0 run and WSU shot 4 of 14 in the first quarter. The Wildcats played OSU to a 28-28 knot over the second and third quarters but the hole was too great.

Forward Raegan Beers led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting, adding 12 rebounds, for Oregon State. Former Fremont High star Timea Gardiner scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Senior forwards Jadyn Matthews and Daryn Hickok each scored nine points to lead WSU. Sophomore center Amelia Raidaveta totaled eight points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Taylor Smith added seven points.

Weber State plays its first regular-season home game on Wednesday, Dec. 6, hosting Nevada at 6 p.m.
