Richins becomes Ace Queen, Weber State volleyball sweeps way through Corpus Christi Tournament

Weber State volleyball has won four straight matches after losing just one set on the way to three victories Thursday through Saturday at Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s invitational tournament.

In the week’s first match, senior Dani Richins served an ace to give her 174 for her career, making her the program’s all-time ace leader.

The Wildcats (6-3) finish nonconference play by hosting Utah Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and playing at Utah on Friday, Sept. 15.

WEBER STATE 3, PVAMU 0

Weber State opened the week Thursday with a win over Prairie View A&M by set scores 25-19, 25-21, 25-14.

Richins finished with 12 kills and two aces. Baylee Bodily had 10 kills. Brielle Rueckert totaled nine kills and four blocks. Saane Katoa and Kate Standifird each had three blocks. Standifird had 41 assists and Makayla Sorensen totaled 20 digs.

WEBER STATE 3, TAMU-CC 0

Friday, Weber State swept tournament host Texas A&M Corpus Christi 25-20, 25-15, 25-22.

Richins had 11 kills and added four aces to her career total. Mia Peterson totaled nine kills and three aces. Saane Katoa totaled five blocks.

WEBER STATE 3, TULANE 1

Weber State blasted Tulane 25-10 in the first set and hit .484 on the way to a 25-10, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22 victory.

Richins led with 14 kills. Sophomore and New Mexico State transfer Mia Peterson totaled a career-high 12 kills and Baylee Bodily also had 12.

Kate Standifird served four aces and tallied 46 assists. Brielle Rueckert totaled six blocks. Makayla Sorensen led the dig effort with 18, Richins had 17 and Standifird 16.
