By Brett Hein - Standard-Examiner | Sep 15, 2023

Weber State volleyball saw its five-match win streak come to an end Friday night with a 3-1 loss at Utah to close nonconference play with a 7-4 record.

Utah, who held losses to Utah Valley and Portland State this season, prevailed 25-18, 25-20, 15-25, 25-16.

Weber Stae was positioned to even the match with an 8-4 lead in the second set but Utah put up a 13-3 rally to take control and get up 2-0.

Baylee Bodily led Weber State with 14 kills. Dani Richins totaled 12 kills and Liana Woodley had 10 on a .529 hitting percentage. Kate Standifird totaled 36 assists and 16 digs. On the block, Saane Katoa logged five, and Bodily and Brielle Rueckert each had four.

Ameli van der Werff totaled seven blocks for Utah, including several in the final set to thwart any potential Weber State rallies.

The Wildcats next play Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Montana. WSU's conference home opener follows, hosting Sacramento State on Saturday, Sept. 23.
