Weber State volleyball, soccer go winless in week’s action
Weber State women’s volleyball dropped three matches in Dallas while only winning two sets, and wins remain elusive for WSU women’s soccer as the two teams went winless over the past week.
In a tournament hosted at SMU, WSU volleyball lost to Loyola Marymount, SMU and Milwaukee.
In a 3-1 loss Thursday to LMU (25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20), WSU’s Rose Moore led with 12 kills and four blocks. Jayda Tupea had 10 kills, four blocks and two aces. Kate Payne totaled 21 assists and 21 digs.
SMU swept WSU convincingly Friday (25-19, 25-16, 25-15). Tupea had six kills and Saane Munyer totaled eight blocks.
Weber State won the first set Saturday against Milwaukee but lost from there (25-27, 25-20, 25-21, 25-13). Tupea led with 16 kills and Baylee Bodily had 13. Ashley Gneiting served three aces, and Payne added 36 assists and 16 digs.
The volleyball team next plays in a Missouri State-hosted tournament from Thursday through Saturday, playing Saint Louis, the host MSU, and UT-Arlington.
For the women’s soccer team, the Wildcats (0-5-3) returned home after five straight road matches and played to a 1-1 draw with Pacific on Thursday.
Ali Swensen scored her fourth goal of the season in the third minute, a lead that stood for 65 minutes until Pacific (1-5-1) equalized.
The Wildcats traveled to Colorado on Sunday and suffered a 2-0 loss.
Weber State has won once in its last 24 matches (1-14-9).
The Wildcats have another split in the upcoming week, traveling to North Dakota State on Thursday before hosting Utah State on Sunday, Sept. 15.
