Jaxson Dart got the headlines in the NFL draft but one of his former passing targets at Roy High School will get a professional opportunity, too.
Kyrese White, known by Kyrese Rowan when at Roy, accepted an invitation to the Denver Broncos’ rookie mini-camp, Utah State University announced Tuesday.
White spent three seasons at the University of Utah after walking on there and recorded four tackles on defense. After transferring to Utah State, White played offense for the Aggies and played in 32 games over three more seasons.
He caught 47 passes for 534 yards and three touchdowns in his Utah State career. He also blocked one punt and returned eight kickoffs for an average of 23.5 yards per return. As a senior, White caught three passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns against Robert Morris.
TWO FROM WSU GET CFL CHANCE
Weber State defensive end Kemari Munier-Bailey had his name called in a pro draft Tuesday.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected Munier-Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick in the Canadian Football League’s global draft. The British defensive end played one season at Weber State after playing at Idaho and Fresno State.
Munier-Bailey totaled 50 tackles with 18.5 for loss, including nine sacks, in his 12 games with Weber State.
The global draft pools together non-Canadian and non-American players for selection to the CFL. Munier-Bailey is the first WSU alum taken in the global draft and 27th in the overall draft history of the CFL.
Winnipeg also lined up a contract with former Weber State cornerback Marque Collins. Collins started as a freshman at WSU and excelled with the Wildcats from 2018-2023 before transferring to BYU.
Injuries cut his seasons short in 2022 and 2023; Collins totaled 100 tackles and five interceptions at Weber State. In his one season at BYU, Collins had 24 tackles and two interceptions.
