Weber State soccer win streak ends on late Nebraska goal

Not generating many scoring looks, Weber State women’s soccer was unlikely to stretch its win streak to four matches but was still minutes away from taking a scoreless draw from Nebraska in a Thursday night matchup.
In the 87th minute, however, the Cornhuskers got a strong throw-in deep in Weber State’s end, right to forward Ava Makovicka near the goal. Makovicka punched an assist to Reagan Raabe just inside the penalty spot, and she fired the game’s only goal past Lauren Butorac to give Nebraska a 1-0 victory.
Butorac, the freshman, seems to have taken over the job at keeper, playing all 90 minutes again and recording four saves, three in the second half.
Nebraska (2-0-2) outshot Weber State (3-2) by a 19-4 tally, including 11-0 in the first half. But only five of those shots were on frame for the home team, while WSU put two shots on goal in the second half.
Weber State remains on the road for two more Thursday matchups, going to Boise State on Sept. 4 and Utah State on Sept. 11 before returning home on Sept. 15 to host Utah Valley.
