Weber State basketball: Wildcat women win 2 games at Loyola Marymount

The Weber State women’s basketball team concluded its nonconference schedule Sunday in Los Angeles with the second of two wins at an event hosted by Loyola Marymount.
The Wildcats finish 6-7 in the run-up to Big Sky play and will open their conference slate on the road at Portland State on New Year’s Day, followed by a game at Sacramento State on Jan. 3.
WEBER STATE 74, OMAHA 61
Weber State opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run, led 36-22 at halftime and led for the final 31:42 of game time on the way to a fourth straight win, defeating Omaha on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.
Senior forward Antoniette Emma-Nnopu finished two assists short of a triple-double, totaling 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in only 27 minutes.
Omaha (1-13), losers of 12 straight, led 8-3 on a pair of early 3-pointers.
After Lanae Billy hit two 3-pointers and Sydney White one in the first quarter, Fui Niumeitolu and Makenna Shaffer-Lauer knocked down consecutive triples to open the second and start the run, putting WSU up 26-13. Weber made 5 of its first 9 3-point attempts and finished 8 of 18 from distance.
Niumeitolu, a redshirt freshman, scored a career-high 14 points to lead WSU’s group of five double-digit scorers. Shaffer-Lauer scored 13 points, Billy 12 and Hannah Robbins 10. White finished with nine points and five assists.
WEBER STATE 68, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 60
Weber State won its third straight game, and first against a Division I opponent in more than one month, by defeating hosts Loyola Marymount on Saturday evening.
The game was tied after one quarter. Weber State led by two at halftime and at the end of the third quarter.
Three consecutive Antoniette Emma-Nnopu rebound putbacks with 5:10, 4:27 and 3:30 left put WSU up 59-51 and helped give the Wildcats a 21-15 fourth-quarter edge.
Emma-Nnopu finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Robbins led Weber State in scoring with 15 points, adding four steals. Shooting guard Lanae Billy totaled 14 points and eight rebounds.
Maya Hernandez led LMU with 16 points. WSU outscored LMU 17-10 at the foul line.
