Weber State's Abby Grundy (1) celebrates her hit against Sacramento State on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Sacramento, Calif.

Weber State softball took two games from visiting Utah Tech on Saturday afternoon to conclude the regular season having won every in-state series it played during the 2025 campaign.

WSU finishes the regular season with a 24-29 record. That mark includes an 8-2 record against fellow Utah teams — 2-1 each against Utah State and Utah Tech, and 2-0 each against Utah and Utah Valley.

Utah Tech beat WSU 5-0 in a Feb. 23 matchup in St. George; Weber State answered this week with two wins including a run-rule shutout to cap the series.

WSU next travels to Greeley, Colorado, for the Big Sky Conference tournament. At 8-7 in league play, Weber State earned the event’s No. 3 seed and will first play No. 6 Montana at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner plays No. 2 Sacramento State that night.

Losers fall to the one-loss side of the double-elimination bracket. Games continue May 7-8 until championship day on Friday, May 9.

WEBER STATE 9, UTAH TECH 4

Emma Bingham homered in the first inning and WSU racked up seven more runs on RBI singles to take care of Utah Tech in the first game.

Shortstop Taegan Smith led WSU at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Third baseman Abby Grundy and catcher Jordan Hart each drove in two.

Joslynn Veltien got the win, allowing two earned runs over 3 1/3 relief innings, allowing five hits and walking three while striking out one. Jayci Finch pitched a 1-2-3 seventh with a strikeout, a groundout and a flyout.

Utah Tech got its two runs against Veltien in the top of the fourth, tying the game 4-4 when Veltien hit Gabi Giroux with the bases loaded. But Veltien induced a ground-ball double play to get out of the jam.

WSU answered with RBI singles from Smith, Grundy and Hart in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-4 lead.

WEBER STATE 8, UTAH TECH 0

RJ Parra allowed three hits in four innings and Brooke Merrill closed the six-inning shutout with two perfect innings, minus one error, as Weber State blanked the Trailblazers for another win.

Jordan McMahon and Emma Bingham each totaled three hits while Abby Grundy and Sienna Solis each drove in two.

Parra and Merrill helped hold a small lead after a Bingham RBI single made it 2-0 in the third. WSU then mounted a six-run rally in the sixth: one-RBI singles from Solis, Apollonia Maldonado, Taegan Smith and Tori Rey set up Grundy for the game-winner. Leading 6-0, Grundy sent the ball to the fence, the centerfielder couldn’t come up with it, and two runs scored to end the game via run-rule.

Starting at $4.32/week.
