Weber State men’s basketball cruised from the opening tip to a program-record margin of victory, walloping non-NCAA foe West Coast Baptist by a 130-38 final Monday night at the Dee Events Center to officially open the 2025-26 season.

Weber State led 17-3 at the first timeout and 70-16 at halftime. All 12 players who took the court scored, including walk-on Brady Smith’s two points late in the contest. Junior forward Edwin Suarez Jr. sat to rest a slight ankle tweak ahead of WSU’s game Saturday at Utah.

WSU had six players in double figures, led by 20 points from sophomore Trevor Hennig; he added seven rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Jace Whiting added 19 points and five assists. Redshirt-freshman forward David Hansen shot 5 of 9 from distance for 15 points. Senior Nigel Burris totaled 14 points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes.

“I was proud of the way — we were very flat in our couple practices leading up to our Colorado Christian (exhibition) game, and played like it. We had three really good practices and then came out tonight and played much better,” WSU head coach Eric Duft said. “A lot more energy, a lot more focus. So good to see. Got a lot of guys in the game and hopefully knocked the rust off. Now the (opponents) get a lot more talented.”

Junior center Malek Gomma had 12 rebounds in 17 minutes. Freshman guard ArDarius Grayson totaled nine points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Freshman center Bourgeois Thsilobo added 12 points and six rebounds in 13 minutes. Freshman Duce Paschal was the only Wildcat to play more than 20 minutes, adding seven points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes.

Paschal shot 1 of 7 from the 3-point line; all other Wildcats were 17 of 37 (45.9%). Tijan Saine Jr. had nine points and four assists, and Viljami Vartianen passed four assists; WSU assisted 32 of 52 field goals.

Davian Brooks scored 24 of West Coast Baptist’s 38 points, shooting 9 of 27 from the field. The Eagles shot 2 of 36 from behind the arc.

Weber State’s largest lead was 124-28 and the eventual 92-point margin of victory eclipsed the program’s previous top mark of 83. The Wildcats’ largest run was 24-0, a span that took the score from 21-4 to 45-4 still with 10:32 left in the first half.

WSU next prepares for its first trip to the Huntsman Center since 2010. The Wildcats and Utes tip at 5 p.m. Saturday in a game that will stream on ESPN+. Utah needed all 40 minutes to put away San Jose State in an 84-75 decision Monday.
