Weber State soccer suffers surprise shutout loss to Portland State

All that matters is what finds the net.
The Weber State women’s soccer team got that reminder Thursday night when the much-improved Wildcats suffered a 1-0 setback to one-win Portland State at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The tally that mattered: Aliayha Saldana punched one in, assisted by Bianca Potesta, in the 11th minute. That made Portland State 2-5-2 this season with a win in its Big Sky opener.
The other numbers looked great. Weber outshot PSU 6-3 in shots on goal, and 20-5 overall. That included a second-half barrage of 14 shots for WSU, and six of their nine corner kicks in a 9-1 advantage for the match.
At 8-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play, Weber State still leads the conference table with six points. Five teams lurk behind with four points.
WSU is next in action Thursday, Oct. 9, at Montana (7-3-2, 4 points) and returns home Sunday, Oct. 12, to host Sacramento State (5-7-1, 4 points).
