Weber State volleyball players Marly Pratt (9), Morgan Pratt (2) and Ashley Gneiting celebrate a point in a win over Eastern Washington on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at Swenson Gym in Ogden.

Weber State women’s volleyball improved to 3-1 early in the Big Sky season with a 3-1 home victory Thursday over Eastern Washington.

The Wildcats earned a 25-11, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19 win over the visiting Eagles, cruising in sets one and three despite the second-set loss.

EWU won the first point of the night but WSU soon led 9-2 early in the opening set, setting the tone for the evening, after Ashley Gneiting gained serve with a kill and then served an ace to get the ball rolling. After that 9-1 rally early, Weber finished the first on an 8-2 advantage with set point coming on a block by Stacia Barker and freshman Rylee Parkinson.

The growing Ray-Moore-Gneiting attack trio continued to pick up steam Thursday; senior Kaylie Ray led WSU with 14 kills, junior Rose Moore had 13 kills and the senior Gneiting added 12. Moore served three aces and Barker tallied four blocks.

Morgan Pratt (27 assists) and Addison Eastwood (21 assists) led WSU’s passing. In digs, the Wildcats had Marly Pratt with 17, Gneiting with 14 and Jayda Tupea with 11.

A Bolomboy was in Ogden again: Eastern Washington middle blocker Judith Bolomboy totaled five kills and four blocks for the Eagles. The freshman is the younger sister of former Weber State men’s basketball standout Joel Bolomboy.

Weber State (11-5, 3-1 Big Sky) begins a homecoming doubleheader Saturday with a 1 p.m. match hosting Idaho (4-12, 1-3) in Swenson Gym before WSU football hosts Sacramento State at 6 p.m. It’s the Nancy Weir Alumni Match, where the Wildcats will honor visiting alumni and open the court for them to play following the match.

WSU SOCCER SUFFERS SETBACK

Weber State women’s soccer’s sights on a surprise Big Sky bid suffered a significant setback Thursday afternoon in Missoula when the Griz dominated the second half en route to a 4-0 blanking of the visiting Wildcats.

WSU played an even match nearly until halftime with a Montana side that has seen its share of success this season, now 8-3-3 overall. But Maycen Slater punched in a goal with 3 minutes to go before halftime to break the deadlock.

UM’s Reagan Brisendine put in the backbreakers, a brace in the 59th and 61st minutes to suddenly put the Griz up 3-0.

WSU outshot Montana 15-12 but the Griz netted 4 of 5 shots on goal; Weber had three shots on goal.

Weber State (8-6, 2-2) drops to the middle of the Big Sky table with six points. WSU has four matches left, although the three teams at the top of the standings (Montana with 8 points, Idaho State and Sacramento State with 7) have all played one more match than WSU.

The Wildcats play their final home game of the season Sunday, hosting Sacramento State at noon in a match that could decide much in the top half of the table, before ending the slate with three straight on the road.

HOOPS TEAMS START MOVE BACK TO DEE

Weber State’s basketball teams finally began moving back into the Dee Events Center this week, less than one month before the 2025-26 season begins.

The 48-year-old facility has been largely closed since the spring as crews revamped the heating and cooling systems with a geothermal installation. Coaches have been out of their offices since January, using suites in the football tower at Stewart Stadium as offices before moving into temporary, portable offices elsewhere on campus this fall.

Teams have held practices at Swenson Gym and the Stromberg Complex’s courts since the spring.

The Weber State men’s team hosts an exhibition against Colorado Christian on Oct. 29 and opens the regular season Nov. 3 against West Coast Baptist, beginning a nonconference slate that will feature five home games against Division I opponents (Campbell, UT Arlington, Kansas City, Oral Roberts, Utah Tech).

The WSU women open the season Nov. 4 at Colorado State, then start a string of three straight games at the Dee by hosting Westminster on Nov. 8 (followed by UC Davis and Utah Tech).

Starting at $4.32/week.
