Weber State women’s soccer wrapped up Kyle Christensen’s first home schedule as head coach with a bang, booting a barrage of bids at Sacramento State in a 6-0 romp on Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

That’s the most goals scored in a Big Sky Conference match in program history, the most goals WSU has scored in a match since a 9-1 win over Youngstown State in 2001, and the most in a half (four in the first half) since 2006.

“Hopefully, these are one of many program records we set moving forward,” Christensen said in a news release.

Weber State (9-6, 3-2 Big Sky) fired a whopping 32 shots on the day, with 17 on goal, while allowing the visiting Hornets (6-9-1, 2-3-1, 7 points) four shots total and zero on frame.

Senior forward Sayler Schlosser notched a brace with goals in the 36th and 83rd minutes. But it was a balanced attack with Grace Kirby (18th minute), Sammie Sofonia (22nd), Simone Packer (43rd) and Presley Ray (54th) all finding the net.

After disappointing shutout losses to Portland State and Montana, the win gets Weber State back on track and back into second place on the Big Sky table with nine points through five games; Montana leads with 11 points in six games.

WSU has scored 28 goals in 15 matches; even with a minimum of three games left, that’s already the most at Weber State since 31 goals (in 20 matches) in 2021.

The Wildcats close the regular season with three straight on the road. The coming week brings a Friday night trip to Northern Arizona (4-4-5, 1-2-1, 4 points) and a Sunday afternoon bout at Northern Colorado (2-8-5, 1-2-1, 4 points).

The regular season concludes at Idaho State (5-6-3, 2-2-1, 7 points) on Sunday, Oct. 26. Montana hosts the Big Sky tournament from Nov. 5-9; the top six teams make the field.

VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS IDAHO

Weber State volleyball won its third straight match with a sweep of visiting Idaho (4-13, 1-4 Big Sky) on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Gym.

The Wildcats blistered the Bengals with a .413 hitting percentage, including a .520 mark in the third set, on the way to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 victory.

Kaylie Ray led WSU (12-5, 4-1) with 16 kills. Rose Moore had nine and Stacia Barker pitched in seven. Brielle Rueckert tallied eight blocks. Morgan Pratt passed 30 assists, adding six digs along with Jayda Tupea and Ashley Gneiting, who also had six digs.

Weber next gets a light week (one match) with a rivalry trip to Pocatello to face Idaho State (6-11, 2-3) on Friday. WSU defeated ISU 3-1 on Oct. 3. After that, it’s the two-match trip to Montana, including a matchup against a Montana State team currently tied atop the league standings with WSU at 4-1.

Starting at $4.32/week.
