The nine-game schedule helps facilitate changes to the conference’s football roster, which loses Sacramento State but adds Southern Utah and Utah Tech into the fold. To make a 13-team schedule work, Southern Utah will play only eight conference games in 2026.

With FCS football moving permanently to a 12-game schedule and using what’s been called “Week 0,” the Big Sky has slotted the additional conference game into that season-opening slot. Opening with league games helps the Big Sky move immediately to a nine-game schedule but allows teams to honor existing nonconference schedules.

That begins a three-game stretch of road games to begin the season for a second-straight year. WSU will play at Southern Utah and at Colorado before finishing nonconference play by hosting Northwestern State.

The first two games of Weber State’s previously scheduled six-game series against Southern Utah will remain on WSU’s schedule as nonconference matchups.

For the final eight conference games, Weber State will host Portland State, Idaho, Idaho State, UC Davis and Utah Tech at Stewart Stadium, while hitting the road to play Cal Poly, Montana State and Northern Arizona.

After three road games to start the 2026 season, WSU plays at home in four of the next five.

At least for now, Weber State gets to play all its natural rivals in 2026 (SUU, UTU, ISU, NAU) but does not have a bye week until November.

With the move to nine conference games, WSU’s 2027 nonconference slate is complete as well, with road games at BYU and North Dakota State, and a home game against Southern Utah; the conference schedule for that season is TBD but seems likely to mirror the 2026 rundown.
