Boise State outshot Weber State 16-6 on Thursday night in Boise, Idaho, but the only shots that mattered were the first take and the last two.

The Wildcats set a record for the quickest goal scored in program history, freshman keeper Lauren Butorac saved a penalty kick late, and Weber State women’s soccer defeated Boise State 2-0 for the team’s fourth win of the season.

At 4-2, Weber State and first-year head coach Kyle Christensen have already eclipsed the program’s win total for the entirety of the 2023 and 2024 seasons combined.

The Wildcats pushed the opening kickoff to Boise State’s goalbox within 10 seconds of the match beginning. A BSU misplay resulted in a series of pinball deflections until junior forward Presley Ray provided the final poke across the line to put WSU ahead 1-0 just 21 seconds into the contest.

Of the Broncos’ 16 shots, just four were on goal and Butorac saved them all. That included a diving stop of a grounder to a seemingly open left side in the 63rd minute, and an 88th-minute save from the penalty spot when BSU’s Kenzie McMillan tried to go low and right.

That helped preserve the shutout, but only after the Wildcats’ offense had provided insurance. Freshman Bailey Brown put a cross right to senior Sammie Sofonia in front of the Boise (2-2-2) net, and her simple redirect touch had plenty of open net to make it 2-0 in the 81st minute.

Weber State next plays another road Mountain West matchup, taking the short drive to Logan to face Utah State (1-1-2) on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Aggies first face No. 11 BYU (3-1-1) on Saturday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
