Weber State volleyball tops Iowa to cap 3-0 week in Missouri

Weber State volleyball players celebrate a point against UC Irvine on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at Swenson Gym in Ogden.Weber State women’s volleyball is now 8-1 to open the 2025 campaign after defeating Big Ten foe Iowa in five sets to finish a weekend tournament Saturday morning at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
After two weekends away, the Wildcats return to the Beehive State to finish their nonconference schedule, going to BYU on Tuesday, hosting Utah Valley on Thursday, and traveling to Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 20.
WSU 3, IOWA 2
Iowa (7-2) extended Saturday’s match with a fourth-set win and had an early battle in the fifth set. But Weber State extended a 3-2 lead to 7-2 with kills by Rose Moore and Kaylie Ray, and a Marly Pratt service ace. That led WSU to victory with set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-9.
WSU hit .341 for the contest. Moore totaled 18 kills, Ray 13 and Ashley Gneiting 11. Morgan Pratt and Marly Pratt each served three aces; Morgan piled up 57 assists and Marly led with 14 digs. Ray and Brielle Rueckert each had 2.5 blocks.
WSU 3, SEMO 0
Weber State played host SEMO (5-4) on Friday evening and claimed a 27-25, 25-19, 26-24 sweep.
Gneiting led with 15 kills, while Ray and Moore each added 10. Rueckert totaled four blocks.
WSU 3, MURRAY 0
Weber State opened the tournament Friday morning with a 27-25, 25-23, 25-13 sweep of Murray State (2-7).
WSU served 11 aces in the short contest, with Gneiting racking up six to go with her team-high 10 kills. Maggie Larsen served three. Jayda Tupea had eight digs.
