Weber State women’s soccer takes a four-game win streak into the second week of Big Sky Conference play after a home sweep on opening weekend.

WSU defeated Eastern Washington and Idaho to get out to its first 2-0 start to league play since 2021. The Big Sky named Weber State junior forward Lily Blum as the league’s co-offensive player of the week for her two goals.

The Wildcats, now 8-4 overall, host Portland State (1-5-2) on Thursday for their lone game this week. The Vikings have yet to play a conference game.

WSU 2, EWU 1

Blum scored both her goals in the conference opener and Weber State defeated Eastern Washington (5-4-3, 1-1 Big Sky) on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Blum’s first was a beauty. Cadence Packer sent a lefty lob from the wing to the top of the goal box, where Blum met the ball with a header past EWU keeper Kamryn Willoughby to open the scoring in the 11th minute.

Blum’s second came in the 57th minute when Sayler Schlosser rifled a hot-moving cross in front of the EWU goal from the right side and a streaking Blum punched it into the net.

Lauren Butorac recorded three saves and allowed zero goals in 76 minutes minding the net.

WSU 3, IDAHO 1

Weber returned to the pitch Sunday afternoon and again got out to a multi-goal lead to defeat Idaho (3-4-5, 0-1-1 Big Sky).

Brynlee Meyerhoffer put a left-footed take into the bottom-right corner of the net in the 15th minute to give WSU a 1-0 halftime lead.

Tenzi Knowles scored just after halftime, beating everyone to a rebound following a Sayler Schlosser shot and save. WSU went up 3-0 in the 57th minute on a dump-off from Grace Kirby at the top of the box, which she launched into the top-left shelf.

VOLLEYBALL BEGINS 1-1

Weber State volleyball (9-5, 1-1 Big Sky) snapped its three-match losing streak with a dominant win over Northern Colorado before being swept by Sacramento State to open Big Sky play.

WSU took two tough sets against NoCo before running away in the third set for a 25-22, 25-21, 25-14 victory on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Ashley Gneiting, Rose Moore and Kaylie Ray each tallied 10 kills to lead the Wildcats.

Weber struggled Saturday with Sacramento State. WSU hit .191 while the Hornets were .383 on the way to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-12 decision favoring the Hornets. Sac State served 10 aces to WSU’s one. Gneiting led the Wildcats with 10 kills.

Starting at $4.32/week.
