Late Caswell goal lifts Weber State soccer over Oregon State

Amanda Caswell punched in a late one-timer and Weber State women’s soccer defeated Oregon State 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The junior midfielder helped the Wildcats (2-1-1) cash in on an overwhelming shots-on-goal advantage in the 79th minute, taking the ball solo from the left side to the middle of the field. Directly at the top of the box, Caswell fired a one-timer past OSU keeper Libby Brooker to her right.
Caswell and a few others got more chances in the waning minutes but couldn’t put in an insurance goal as Brooker ran her total to nine saves. WSU outshot the Beavers 20-6 overall and 11-3 in attempts on frame.
WSU sophomore keeper Lauren Butorac totaled two saves.
Sophomore forward got Weber State on the board in the 24th minute, taking a foul after a blocked shot in the box and converting a penalty kick for a 1-0 mark.
Mary Hoffman answered for Oregon State (1-3), pushing a touch past Butorac in the 25th minute to even the score.
With two straight wins under the belt, Weber State preps for a road trip to California. The Wildcats will take on Long Beach State on Saturday, Aug. 29, and go north to face Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 3.
WSU returns home Sept. 10 against South Dakota State and remains home Sept. 13 to face UC Santa Barbara.
