The Wildcats head to Northern Colorado for a Friday kickoff with 80 new players, WSU says, and two of them will lead the quarterback group.

Fifth-year player Devin Brown is WSU’s starting quarterback, as expected, after spending his career at Ohio State and Cal. Brown played for new head coach Eric Kjar in high school, setting a Utah high school record with 4,875 passing yards as a senior at Corner Canyon.

Backing up Brown: freshman Nate Dahle. The lefty beat out returners Kingston Tisdell and Cash McCollum for that spot on the Game 1 depth chart. After his senior year at Ridgeline last season, Dahle landed at No. 2 all-time in Utah preps career passing yards (12,467).

The depth chart is spotted with a mix of returning players and newcomers. All starters listed on WSU’s offense are in their third college year or older; the Wildcat defense has 10 starters or co-starters that age as well.

Fifth-year senior defensive end Josh Hardy announced his retirement from football Monday.
