Rashid Shaheed became the fourth Weber State football alum to appear in the Super Bowl and third to start in the big game when the Seattle Seahawks took on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 on Sunday, Feb. 8.

And, Shaheed became the seventh former Wildcat to win a ring when the Seahawks prevailed 29-13.

Shaheed caught two passes for 27 yards, returned one kickoff for 20 yards and returned two punts for 16 yards to help Seattle claim the trophy.

The former kick-return extraordinaire who tied the Division I record with seven career kickoff returns for touchdowns at Weber State was traded from New Orleans to Seattle on Nov. 4, 2025, as the Seahawks made their playoff push.

Shaheed returned one kickoff and one punt for touchdowns during the regular season with Seattle, then returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown in the Seahawks’ playoff opener against San Francisco.

Quarterback Sam Darnold nearly connected with Shaheed on two deep balls in the Super Bowl but the pair couldn’t quite make the big-play connection in a game that was 12-0 after three quarters.

Shaheed joined Darryl Pollard (San Francisco, 1988-89), Al Pupunu (San Diego, 1994) and Paul McQuistan (Seattle, 2013) as former Weber State players to take the field in the Super Bowl.

Pollard and Pupunu started for their teams, making Shaheed the first WSU alum in 32 years to start in the Super Bowl.

Former WSU players to receive rings on Super Bowl-winning teams — for their roles as part of the team, whether or not they played in the Super Bowl — are Lee White (New York Jets, 1968), Pollard, Jamie Martin (St. Louis, 2001), Marcus Mailei (New Orleans, 2009), McQuistan, Jonah Williams (Los Angeles Rams, 2021), and Shaheed.
