The final stretch of the college basketball season has arrived for Weber State.

Weber State’s men’s team aims to climb to third place while the women’s team is in the all-too-familiar place of wanting to claw out of last place.

The Wildcat men host Montana State and Montana this week, the final home games which bring senior night Saturday, while the women’s squad hits the road.

Due to WSU hosting the 4A high school basketball tournaments, Saturday’s men’s tipoff against Montana has been moved to 7:30 p.m.

WEBER STATE MEN

The Wildcats can’t seem to find any consistency, trading a dominant road win at Idaho with a crushing road loss at Eastern Washington just two days later and again playing without sophomore Trevor Hennig.

So, at 13-14 overall and 7-7 in league play, the record reflects what the team has looked like so far. WSU is currently tied for fifth with Northern Colorado, winners of six straight, is a half-game back of EWU in fourth and 1 1/2 games behind Montana in third.

First up is second-place Montana State (15-11, 9-4) coming to Ogden on Thursday. The Bobcats lost three of four after losing starting point guard Davian Brown to injury but bounced back Saturday to beat Montana on the road and sweep their rivals. Seniors Jed Miller (14.6 points per game) and Patrick McMahon (13.4 ppg) have led from the guard line all season but sophomore forward Christian King (12.2 ppg) has come on strong to make MSU a difficult matchup.

In Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. tip, third-place Montana (14-12, 8-5) arrives in Ogden on a skid. The Griz crushed Northern Arizona and WSU as part of a four-game win streak that also included beating first-place Portland State on the road, but Montana has lost three of its last four since — including EWU and MSU both at home. Money Williams (19.6 ppg) is the star; he’s never turned in even a decent game against WSU, so he may be due.

Saturday’s game will be senior night for the team’s one senior, forward Nigel Burris.

WEBER STATE WOMEN

The Wildcat women (8-19, 2-12) have just one road win this season and that’s unlikely to change Thursday at second-place Montana State (18-6, 11-2). Taylee Chirrick (18.0 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and the Bobcats are 9-2 at home this season.

But after that, Weber State finishes with two of its final three games against teams in the bottom three of the standings, starting with Saturday at Montana (7-17, 4-9). If WSU can roll some momentum from its previous Saturday win over Eastern Washington, it would start at Montana, a team just 3-7 at home. Senior guard Mack Konig (16.3 ppg) leads the Griz in scoring.

Starting at $4.32/week.
