Big rally doesn’t dent deficit as Weber State women fall by 20 at home to MSU
Weber State senior guard Lanae Billy shot 8 of 9, including 6 of 6 from deep, for 22 points against first-place Montana State on Saturday afternoon in Ogden.
And that was all in the first half. But WSU trailed by 12, Billy did not attempt another shot the rest of the game, MSU led by 31 after three quarters and a massive Weber run still didn’t sniff a single-digit margin as the Bobcats won comfortably to deny the Wildcats their first league win.
Weber State (6-15, 0-8) burned to a 23-5 advantage over only 5 minutes to open the fourth quarter, but that only cut the deficit to 13. The Wildcats scored just six more points in the final 5 minutes to bring the comeback to a screeching halt.
Billy’s first-half effort led the Wildcats in scoring. Senior forward Antoniette Emma-Nnopu added 17 points and eight rebounds but had seven of WSU’s 29 turnovers. Hannah Robbins had seven points, six rebounds and eight turnovers against her former team. Sydney White totaled seven assists and five turnovers.
WSU made 10 3-pointers but allowed MSU (14-5, 7-1) a 13-of-26 clip. Bobcats star Taylee Chirrick totaled 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
