The Wildcats will host Washington State on Dec. 9, according to a game contract obtained via an open records request. Set for a 2 p.m. tipoff on a Wednesdsay, the game sets up a home-and-home with the Cougars.

Washington State will pay Weber State $25,000 for the return trip in 2027.

It will be the first-ever visit to Ogden for the crimson WSU; the Cougars, now led by former Eastern Washington coach David Riley, are 2-0 all-time against Weber, including a 1983 NCAA Tournament win in Boise and a 2021 regular-season contest in Pullman.

Wazzu adds another solid Division I opponent to Weber State’s ledger for next season. WSU and Utah Valley will play the fourth of a four-game series in Ogden this season; an addendum signed in June sets the Wolverines’ trip to the Dee Events Center for 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. That’s likely WSU’s regular-season home opener.

Otherwise, a road-heavy but Utah-focused schedule has come together so far.

Weber goes to Salt Lake City for the second of a three-game road series against Utah on Nov. 10 (for $95,000), and returns to the Spectrum in Logan to face Utah State on Nov. 18 (for $85,000).

The Wildcats are also back on the schedule at BYU, set for a trip to Provo on Dec. 15 (for $80,000).

Additionally, WSU has a road trip set up to Cal State Fullerton for a Saturday afternoon tip on Nov. 28, and the Titans will return one game to Ogden in 2027. WSU is 5-1 all-time against Fullerton but the teams have played only twice this century (the last a 2017 WSU road win in the CIT).

In between the trip to Fullerton and the home game against Washington State, Weber State is expected to go on a road conference trip on Dec. 3 and Dec. 5, though the Big Sky schedule is currently not released. With the additions of Southern Utah and Utah Tech (both of whom will play in Ogden this year as well), the Big Sky is expanding back to a 20-game league schedule, which will add a conference weekend back to the early December slate each year.

Based on official contracts on the books, the WSU men have five or six more nonconference games available to schedule.

WOMEN’S SCHEDULE

The schedule for Jenteal Jackson and the Weber State women is shaping up, too, with a pair of home games to open the slate.

That starts with Westminster University driving to Ogden for a Nov. 3 contest.

Jackson’s Wildcats have two Division I home games on the books, beginning with Denver on Nov. 7 to start a two-game, home-and-home series, and setting up a Saturday doubleheader on the same day the WSU men host Utah Valley to cap the opening week.

The Wildcats also host DI foe Houston Christian on Nov. 14, paying the Huskies $10,000 for the one game.

Weber will also host non-Division I opponents Northern New Mexico on Nov. 19 and La Sierra on Dec. 19

On the road, WSU will visit Colorado State on Nov. 22 (for $42,000), Utah State on Dec. 12 (for $10,000) and BYU on Dec. 15 (for $30,000).

The WSU women have up to three or four more games that could be scheduled.

BOISE EXPANSION

To accommodate the additions of Southern Utah and Utah Tech for an 11-team conference, the Big Sky announced the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, held yearly at Idaho Central Arena in Boise, will expand by one round and one day to feature all teams.

The format and bracket will remain the same except for the addition of a 10-versus-11 game on Friday. The schedule continues on Saturday with the No. 9 seed playing the winner of the Friday game, while seeds 7 and 8 face off as well.

The top six seeds bye, with Nos. 1 and 2 continuing to receive a preferred bye with games on Sunday against teams from the bottom half while also getting Monday off with a win. Seeds 3 through 6 will again take the court Monday as the tournament concludes Monday through Wednesday.

That means teams finishing 10th or 11th must win five games in six days to claim the tournament title, while teams 7-9 must win four games in five days. The top two teams must win three games in four days, while seeds 3-6 are tasked with winning three games in three days.

The all-teams-invited format, as well as format changes, are decided by university presidents in consultation with athletic directors. This group previously decided on the preferred-bye bracket with games staggered across more days to remove from the previous schedule the early-round days that began at 9 a.m.
