Roy High alum and Weber State sophomore Ethan Ecker highlights a group of 13 Wildcats who qualified for NCAA regionals, held this week.
Ecker, a javelin thrower, tossed a personal record 232 feet, 1 inch at the Big Sky Conference championship meet earlier this month in Portland. That was good for a conference title and is the third-best mark in WSU history.
That distance is 14th-best in the West region. The West Regional meet is scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday, May 27-30, at the University of Arkansas. The top 12 finishers in each event qualify for the NCAA national championship meet, scheduled for June 10-13 at the University of Oregon.
Ecker overcame three elbow surgeries to become a Big Sky champion, according to a Facebook post from his father.
Ecker and the 47 other athletes set for the men’s javelin event are scheduled to compete at 1 p.m. MT Wednesday.

True to the legacy of the late Chick Hislop, six of Weber State’s 13 athletes headed to the regional meet are steeplechase runners (three men, three women). On the men’s side, WSU has had at least one steeplechase athlete qualify for the West regional in 13 of 15 meets, and more than one 12 times.
Below are the 13 athletes competing this week in Arkansas.
