VOLLEYBALL VICTORY

Weber State volleyball split its first weekend of Big Sky play on the road, likely in the opposite pair of results than you’d expect.

After dropping a 3-1 decision at Eastern Washington, the Wildcats rebounded for a 3-1 victory at Idaho (9-5, 0-2 Big Sky) on Saturday.

Dropping the first set in extra points, WSU swept from there in a 25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 victory. Rose Moore totaled 17 kills, Ziya Munyer had 12 and Stacia Barker added 10. WSU outhit the Vandals .286 to .180.

Weber State (8-4, 1-1) returns to Swenson Gym for a home weekend against Portland State (5-8, 1-1) on Thursday and Northern Arizona (8-6, 1-1) on Saturday.

Newcomer Utah Tech (9-3) leads a group of three teams that went 2-0 over opening weekend (Idaho State, Northern Colorado) with a sweep at PSU and a five-set win at NAU.

SOCCER STRIKES RAMS

Weber State soccer (4-5-1) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-1 home victory over Colorado State on Friday night.

Lauren Butorac tallied six saves and WSU used a CSU own goal to spur the victory.

After a 0-0 first half, Cadence Packer scored in the 50th minute by poking in a goal on a scramble in front of the net. Mia Casey scored in the 57th minute for the Rams to tie things up.

The own goal came just 24 seconds later to put Weber back in front.

WSU struck quickly for insurance. Three minutes later, Lily Blum won a foot race on a ball played well forward to get a one-on-one with CSU keeper Addison Huber. Blum pulled the trigger at the last moment, sending her shot between Huber’s legs for a 3-1 tally in the 60th minute.

With four nonconference wins, Weber State now gets a chance to live up to the No. 1 vote Big Sky coaches gave the Wildcats before the season. Conference play begins on the road for WSU against the two teams with the most nonconference wins; WSU visits the dome in Idaho (6-2-2), where the Vandals are 3-0-1, on Thursday, and Eastern Washington (6-2-1) on Sunday.

CHEER PUTS ON FOR THE U.S.

Weber State’s dance squad went south and won gold while wearing the red, white and blue at the International Cheer Union’s 2026 Pan-American Championships over the weekend in Mexico City.

WSU’s dance team represented the United States in the nine-country competition, which also included Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama.

Wearing USA uniforms and coached by Erica Williams Jordan, the WSU dance team won gold in hip hop performance (cheer division) and silver in jazz performance (cheer division).
