Weber State cross country: Allens each finish Top 10 at NCAA Mountain regional
Christian Allen kept pace with the nation’s best Friday morning, and he and spouse Summer Allen are both likely to advance to represent Weber State at the NCAA Cross Country Championships next week.
Christian Allen ran 29:43.4 in the men’s 10K race at Provo’s Timpanogos Golf Club to finish fourth in the NCAA Mountain Region championship race, four seconds off defending national champion Connor Mantz of BYU, who took first at 29:39.6.
The NCAA makes the national meet field official Saturday for the championship races Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Florida. Allen’s finish seems sure to advance him to the national meet. The Weber State men finished sixth with Taylor Dillon’s 20th-place mark the next-best time, and Dallin Leatham in 31st.
The BYU men had four finish in the top 10, and Northern Arizona three, to finish first and second in the team table.
Summer Allen was Weber State’s top women’s finisher and also seems set to advance to Florida next week. She finished the women’s 6K course in 20:27.0 to finish eighth, and teammate Billie Hatch (20:40.1) in 12th may also advance.
The WSU women finished eighth. New Mexico, Colorado and BYU were top team finishers. Northern Arizona’s Taryn O’Neill won first individually.
