WEBER COUNTY — The public transit system riders are familiar with will be looking a bit different next week.

New or improved service, new routing, discontinued service as well as minor adjustments to the FrontRunner, TRAX Lines and numerous bus routes in Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah, Weber and Davis counties will go into effect Aug. 7 as part of Utah Transit Authority’s August Change Day.

Updating, adjusting and expanding service across the region is based on ridership patterns, ongoing community needs and public feedback, according to Carl Arky, UTA spokesperson.

While changes to service also occur in April and December to account for the start and end of ski season, Arky said August is a major shift in transit when kids, teens, college students, teachers and staff are returning to school, creating a greater demand and altering service times.

UTA On Demand, an app-based transit service connecting riders to destinations, is expanding service in South Davis and Tooele County.

On Demand transit in South Davis will be replacing discontinued services to five bus routes first suspended in April 2020 due to COVID-19.

“We opened those lines to service people going to work and no one was going to work,” Arky said.

Weber State University’s central campus, and the Dee Events Center, will have new service with the implementation of Route 602. The route will run every 5-15 minutes when school is in session.

Additional changes coming to the WSU campus include adjustments to bus routes 625, 640, 645 and 650 along Edvalson Street and the start of UTA’s bus rapid transit system on Aug. 29, from the Dee Events Center to Wildcat Village into Central Station in the middle of campus.

As all service adjustments go into effect on Aug. 7, UTA recommends visiting rideuta.com to view changes to routes and updated schedules.
