Elaine (Hogan) Maltby

Mar 10, 2022

Elaine (Hogan) Maltby, 82, passed away peacefully from complications of age on March 6, 2022. Elaine was born on January 31, 1940, in West Jordan, Utah, to Kenneth and LaPreal Hogan. Her family later moved to the Ogden area, where she graduated from Weber High School in 1958.

Elaine married Russ Maltby in 1962 and later divorced. Together, they had three boys.

Her three sons were the light of her life, and she worked tirelessly, sometimes three jobs at once, to support them. Despite her busy schedule, she never missed a single one of her boys’ swim meets.

Elaine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and she especially enjoyed her time serving as a mentor to youth in the Young Women’s and Primary programs.

Throughout her career, Elaine worked a number of jobs to support her family. She found her passion while working for Weber County School District as a teaching aide for youth with special needs. This job was her true calling, and she was passionately dedicated to the many students she helped. Elaine also worked as a clerk for the IRS for more than 20 years.

Known for her strong opinions and caring heart, Elaine always made sure that her house was stocked with the best snacks for any visitors who happened to drop by. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved to watch softball, football, and soccer. Her legendary Easter parties, Sunday afternoon games of Pictionary, and handwritten recipe cards have inspired countless family memories and traditions that continue to keep her with us in spirit.

Elaine is survived by her brother, Grant C. (Norine) Hogan, her children, Brent (Trudy) Maltby, Scott (Lori) Maltby, and Dave (Tracy) Maltby, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister and best friend, Marilyn.

Elaine’s family would like to extend special thanks to the loving and attentive staff of Seasons Assisted Living, who cared for Elaine for the last three years of her life and helped ease her passing. Funeral services will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Monday, March 14 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, as well as one hour prior to the funeral services.
