The full Northern Utah calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:
1. Big Boy No.4014 is Coming to Ogden
Union Station, Ogden, April 18-19, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Northern Utah’s history is tied to the railroads and so it’s understandable to get excited when you get a chance to enjoy railroad history. That will be the case when Big Boy No. 4014 returns in mid-April. “GUESS WHO’S COMING BACK TO OGDEN, UTAH?! Big Boy No. 4014 and he’s bringing friends! 11 additional cars, and the Golden Spike!” the city website says. It’s part of a celebration planned by Union Pacific, which says on its website that “Union Pacific will join the nation in celebrating 250 years of American independence and innovation this year with its first-ever coast-to-coast steam tour led by the legendary Big Boy No. 4014. The first leg of the tour starts Sunday, March 29, with the Big Boy and several historical passenger cars from Union Pacific’s Heritage Fleet traveling west to California from Cheyenne, Wyoming, the steam locomotive’s homebase.”

2. Wasatch Master Chorale Spring Sing!
Ogden Tabernacle, April 19-20, 7:30 p.m.
Another great way to celebrate spring is with the beautiful voices of the Wasatch Master Chorale, which will be performing at the Ogden Tabernacle. The choir website says: “The non-denominational Wasatch Master Chorale was formed in the fall of 2004. Our goal is to sing beautiful music well. Join us as we sing in the spring and winter seasons. The Wasatch Master Chorale is comprised of members from all over the Wasatch Front. While much of the music they sing is drawn from sacred literature, their members are from many different spiritual traditions and the group is truly non-denominational.”

3. Songkran Festival 2026
Wat Dhammagunaram Buddhist temple, Layton, April 25-26, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Learning and experiencing international cultural events can help us understand our neighbors better, which is why going to the annual Songkran Festival in Layton is worth doing. A Utah event website (utahfunactivities.com) says: “The Wat Dhammagunaram of Utah in Layton will host its annual Thai and Lao New Year (Songkran) Festival on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, 2026. The two-day celebration features merit-making, traditional performances, food, and Buddhist ceremonies, offering a cultural experience for the community.”
