Mary Jane Geary
February 14, 1950 — November 1, 2026
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, our impossibly sweet mother and grandmother, Mary Jane Geary, stepped into eternity and into the expectant arms of her beloved husband Steve. The grief of losing her is softened by the reality of that joyful reunion and the knowledge that we too will see her again.
Mary Jane was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1950, fitting for a life defined by warmth and love. She spent an idyllic childhood on Swanner Place in Ogden, alongside her doting parents, Asael and Doraine Moulton, and two brothers.
Owing to her sunny disposition and active involvement in student government, choir, and a dizzying array of extracurricular activities (suggesting an almost omnipresence!), she won many hearts — though none more precious to her than Steve Geary’s. From their meet-cute in the Weber State library, to their marriage and sealing in the Ogden Temple on June 1, 1973, to raising four children in Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, Bountiful, and Farmington, Mary Jane and Steve remained unflinchingly devoted to each other for over 50 years.
Mary Jane’s soft-heartedness made her an especially wonderful grandmother. She was an easy laugh, effusive and unrelenting in her praise, and boundlessly patient. Long, hot days at Lagoon and the anarchy of a Chuck E. Cheese or trampoline park were genuine treasures to her, because they meant spending time with her “loves.” No grandchild ever left her presence willingly and without feeling like her unquestioned favorite.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was simple and powerfully shone through in the kindness and grace she showed everyone around her. For her Nursery and Primary kids, whom she loved as her own and showed up for long after they left her stewardship, and to all of us privileged to call her sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was a light.
Mary Jane is survived by her four children, Melissa, Kristen (Chad), Suzy (Parker), and Dave; nine grandchildren, Preston (Marissa), David (Kaylee), Sam, Sarah, Spencer, Beau, Henry, Ollie, and Grace; one great-grandchild, Oliver; and two brothers, Steve (JoAnn) and Dave (Amy).
