Brokaw: ‘Signora Volpe’ returns for second season
Emilia Fox returns as Sylvia Fox for the sophomore season of the intriguing drama “Signora Volpe.” Sylvia is a former MI6 agent who was disillusioned with her job and life and decided to move to Perugia, Italy, to be near her sister Isabel (Tara Fitzgerald) and her husband, Matteo (Matteo Carlomagno). Season One had Sylvia enjoying her more laid-back life, which didn’t turn out as she had planned as she managed to find herself in the middle of some dangerous adventures. But once a spy, always a spy.
Sylvia cannot escape her past and in Season Two she takes on some “freelance” spy work. Her boyfriend, Giovanni Riva (Giovanni Cirfiera), is the local police captain who, although has confidence in her, tries to persuade her to stay out of his investigations. This is not easy, and in this season, she manages to help him in many ways.
The first episode of the three that make up Season Two involves Sylvia charging headfirst into the investigation of a murdered businessman in the town. While all clues point elsewhere, Sylvia tracks down several leads which point to the most unlikely murderer. Will viewers figure out the mystery before Sylvia?
The second episode has Sylvia undercover as a personal assistant to a rich woman in a luxurious villa. Her contacts at MI6 know a coup is about to take place in a South American country and Sylvia is there to figure out who might be involved, as several guests are staying at the lakeside villa.
An interesting development to her undercover operation might turn things around for her and spell disaster when someone from her past is revealed. The father she never knew happens to be one of the guests. Nicholas Farrell enters the series as Michael Priest, aka Mr. Fox.
The finale of the season is the most suspenseful. Sylvia and her father are enjoying their newfound relationship when she is kidnapped and all clues lead to her father’s past business deals. Spoiler alert: He was an MI6 agent, too; however, these days he is an art dealer. It could be that Sylvia was taken as a hostage until her father repays his debt. But he is not convinced that is why she was taken. He has a past as well and knows that Sylvia’s former life as an MI6 agent brings plenty of hate and ire from those she put away. He is convinced her capture is related to her past as an MI6 agent; however, the police captain is not so sure.
While her family is trying to figure out where she is and why she was taken, the police are doing the same thing; however, the Fox family is better at it. The ending introduces a new storyline for a potential third season, which as yet has not been announced. However, with the popularity of the series, a third season should be announced soon.
All three episodes of Season Two of “Signora Volpe” (aka “Mrs. Fox”) can be streamed on Acorn TV, part of the AMC network.
