New spring banners have popped up all over downtown! A longtime fixture by Ogden Downtown Alliance that adds colorful charm to the streets we love, the light pole displays now feature original artwork by local artists.

After ODA released a call for entries, artwork was selected by Ogden-area artists:

  • Erica Lyon: “The Wasatch and Mount Ogden as the Ogden River Runs Through it All”
  • Garrett Smith: Unnamed cityscape
  • Gavin Hendricksen: “Take Me Home”
  • Rachel Koch: Vibin’ Ogden piece
  • Erica Lyon: “Moon Lite Ben Lomond Peak with Ogden River Below”
  • Vanessa Colunga: “Scenic Ogden Canyon”
  • Gavin Hendricksen: “Snowbasin”
  • Rachel Koch: Unnamed Ogden piece with daisies
  • Rebecca Ory Hernandez: Unnamed “O” piece
  • Gavin Hendricksen: “Our First Hike”
  • Leon Araujo: “Dancing My Way to the Mountains”

The spring banner project was titled “Vibin’ Ogden”: ” We really wanted people from all over Ogden to show us how they see Ogden and how it makes them feel,” said Haille Van Patten, ODA’s marketing and public relations manager.

ODA values paid artistry and strives to provide opportunities for local creatives to share their talents. All of the artists featured on the banners were paid. Next time, they want to appeal to not just working artists but everyone in Ogden, whether or not they think of themselves as an “artist.”

“Ogden’s people are what make it so awesome so we definitely want to celebrate that,” Van Patten said.

Six copies of each art piece, a total of 66 banners, are currently hanging on light fixtures on Historic 25th Street, The Junction, and Washington Boulevard from 18th to 28th streets. The side adjacent to the Vibin’ Ogden banners will be event banners, such as the upcoming Ogden Marathon, said ODA Arts & Events Coordinator Jessica Marine.

“We are always looking for ways to get our community involved in being the change they want to see in the city,” Marine said.
