OGDEN — Local and regional artists are flooding Union Station this Saturday and Sunday for the annual Ogden Arts Festival. Entry is free for visitors 18 years and under, and adult admission is $5 both days. Onsite purchases as well as entry payments are being processed digitally this year.

With up to 10,000 people attending the festival every year, organizers are encouraging ticket purchases in advance for ease and speed.

Attendees will have access to 115 vendors on Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Festival Director Danielle Bendinelli said there will be a mix of artists this year, with 30 new artists and 12 emerging artists.

Various forms of art are being featured at the festival, with four dance groups performing Saturday on the Browning Theatre Stage. Genres include tap, African, Puerto Rican and Mexican inspiration.

Chamber Orchestra Ogden and the OnStage Ogden Youth Guild will be performing as well as String FX, RIP Coyote and Celtic group Callanish.

Starting out as a festival volunteer nine years ago, Bendinelli said the event has accomplished much in terms of growth and vision. Nurture the Creative Mind, a local organization providing complimentary arts programs to youth in the community, has been managing the event since 2016.

Funds raised by the festival through booth fees paid by artists and entrance fees go directly to the organization while artists receive 100% of the profits for their merchandise.

Working with the booth artists is Bendinelli’s favorite thing to do — so much so, she said, that when she took on the position of director two years ago, she kept the artist coordination duties as well.

Every year, roughly 200 artists apply to participate in the festival. But with their current footprint at Union Station, there is only room for 115-120 vendors. According to Bendinelli, it is a competitive application and jury selection process.

Eventually, the festival committee of volunteers would like to expand their layout to allow for more artist participation. In doing so, Bendinelli said they hope to attract more attendees to justify adding another day in celebrating the arts.

“We are small but mighty,” Bendinelli said.
