“We are doing a tattoo convention and everyone is invited.”

Jack Knowlden, owner of Skin It Tattoo, says a tattoo convention in Ogden has been a discussion for years, but the decision to finally start it came quickly. “Ogden is big enough and we have enough shops,” Knowlden says. “Let’s just do our own.”

Knowlden planned the Ogden Tattoo Convention with the idea of “building community.” He expresses that he wants the local tattoo shops to support one another, build each other up and create communities of artists, but he also wants to support as many locals as possible. “Keeping it localized creates a massive network for the city and brings everyone together.”

The tattoo convention will host local vendors alongside the tattoo artists, encourage visitors to eat at local restaurants, stay in downtown hotel rooms and visit the other happenings on 25th Street the first weekend in June. There will be 33 awards presented throughout the weekend convention, giving local tattoo artists a great chance to add an award to their wall. Knowlden even included a “most unique” award, because “there are some styles that don’t usually have a category to win an award in.”

The 1st Annual Ogden Tattoo Convention will be held at Union Station on 25th Street on June 3 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; June 4 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and June 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee at the door for a day pass, or $20 for a pass for all 3 days. Ages 12 and under are free.
