Fall Workshops: Eccles, Local Artisan Collective, Monarch

Summer has ended and the kids are back in school. Fall is quickly approaching, but do not fret — local Ogden artists have plenty of workshops to keep you and your children entertained for hours. Our community is lucky to have a wide variety of makers and creators willing and ready to help you channel your inner artist.

The Eccles Art Center, a non-profit organization located in the Nine Rails District, has a variety of classes to choose from. From their calendar:

Adult Open Art Studio

Ongoing, every Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

In this class you will be able to explore your own art interests under the supervision of an art instructor. A variety of media and basic art knowledge will be investigated based on the direction each participant plans to pursue. Students will provide their own materials

Experimenting with Different Underpaintings

Friday & Saturday, November 4 & 5

10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 

In this two-day workshop, we will explore some ways to begin painting with a variety of underpainting techniques.

Children’s Art Classes: Fine Art 1

Tuesdays, September 13 to November 1, 4-5 p.m. 

Express yourself with paints, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, drawing, and mixed media. Learn about color, shape, line, texture, and composition to develop confidence in creating your own style.

The Local Artisan Collective has gathered 50+ highly skilled artists together so patrons can shop and take art classes all in one place. At the Local Artisan Collective you can sign up for classes taught by a variety of artists across many genres. From their calendar:

Happy Birthday to The Local Artisan Collective! 

Saturday, October 15, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. 

The Local Artisan Collective is throwing their 6th Birthday Party and you are invited to join in on the fun! There will be demos, classes, sales, a chance to win gift certificates to the store, free Halloween birthday hats, deals, cupcakes from artists, and more! Make sure to register for classes being held during the celebration, including: create your own felted witch hat design, sidewalk chalk art competition, create your own voodoo doll, and much more!

Paracord Bracelet Making

Sunday, October 16, 12-2 p.m.

(taught by Steve and Izzy, classrooms A & B, $15)

Learn all the knots to make your own paracord bracelet. Supplies are included for the first bracelet. Learn all about how to size for yourself and others, color matching, finishing, and much more!

Block Printing

Sunday, October 16, 2:30-5 p.m.

(taught by Izzy, classrooms A & B, $35) 

Learn to relief print! Class will include tools to cut artist’s linoleum (that’s right!), the block itself, ink, and a variety of materials to try printing on.

Jewelry Making Class

Wednesday, October 19, 10 a.m.

(taught by Rene Venegas, classroom A, $40)

Students will learn how to make earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and anything else they want out of silver, gold, and precious stones.

The Artist Factory Workshop: Organic Artist

November 1 & 3, 3:30-5:30 p.m. (ages 5-10)

The Monarch, a collaborative environment where artists, creative businesses, and makers of all types can connect, inspire, and create together in the heart of Ogden’s Nine Rails Creative District is teaming up with OCA, a non-profit organization that inspires local and regional artists through active involvement with the international contemporary art community, to bring you The Artist Factory Workshop: Organic Artist.

In this class, the young artists, with guidance from the talented Kasey Lou Lindley, will make artworks with natural materials. These materials include salt, honey, flowers, sticks, and more! You don’t have to have a big budget to make beautiful artwork! Learn how to acquire the “organic artist” skills by the OCA Artist Factory! Students will be provided with all materials and their very own OCA tote bag. Space is limited to 18 students to maximize individual attention.

Watercolor Greeting Card Workshop: Sage Art Studio #21 & 22, Saturday, November 5, 10 a.m. -noon, $40, ages 16+. Make up to four cards with envelopes. Pre-register with susansnyderart@gmail.com, required by Wednesday, November 2.

Inktober Party: Adri Moore Studio #11, October 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $20 (supplies included). In this class we will create a unique inktober trading card, carve stamps, and print stamps. For more information or to register, contact Adri Moore at 801-389-9498.

Kids Pottery Classes: Bradley Trammel Curly Tail Studio #4, Tuesdays 4-5:15 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m., $75 for one month/four weeks of classes, ages 9-16+. This is a rotating class; you may start any week of the month. In this class you will start with hand building and grow into wheel-thrown pottery.
