Utah’s Megaplex tops nationally in Mockingjay, Star Wars sales
Early in the opening weekend for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” Utah theater-goers have displayed an appetite for movie premieres.
Saturday morning, Steve Starks, president of Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment, reported via Twitter the company’s Megaplex Theatres as a top draw nationally for “Mockingjay – Part 2.”
Congrats to the @megaplextheatre team. Through Friday night we have 2 of the top 5 theaters nationally (#1 and #4) for #MockingjayPart2

Megaplex’s Jordan Commons location in Sandy was the No. 1 draw nationally for the premiere, while The District location in South Jordan was No. 4 nationally, according to Jeff Whipple, the theater’s vice president of marketing and public relations.

Additionally, Megaplex locations in Lehi, Centerville and Vineyard ranked in the top 25 nationally. Whipple said Lionsgate, the studio that produced the “Hunger Games” series, sent Megaplex a message congratulating them on the opening.
Starks also reported Megaplex as a top seller for “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.”
@megaplextheatre is also near the top in #StarWarsTheForceAwakens tickets sold. Thanks for the great support Utah!

Whipple said feedback from Disney regarding “Star Wars” pre-sales has been “great.” That, in part, led Disney to select Megaplex’s The District location in South Jordan as the exclusive Utah location for a marathon of all six previous “Star Wars” films ahead of the release for “The Force Awakens.”
Whipple said interested movie fans can visit the theater’s Star Wars page for more information about special events for the premiere on Dec. 18.
Megaplex reported being on track for a record year in attendance.
