Sarah McLachlan donates proceeds to Utah mom with cancer

By Angie Erickson - | Oct 11, 2014

When Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan heard about Kathy Taylor, the Utah mother who lost her premature baby, Luke, while fighting melanoma, she decided to give back. A recent post on McLachlan’s  Facebook page read, “I wanted to share a story of strength and courage. Kathy’s cover of my song ”I Will Remember You” is available on iTunes, and all proceeds will go toward Kathy’s Miracle Fund.”

While Taylor was 26 weeks pregnant, doctors discovered the 33-year-old mother had an aggressive form of melanoma. She chose to forgo cancer treatment in order to protect her unborn child and keep her baby in the womb as long as possible. She was determined to deliver a healthy baby boy. In September, she was told her liver was failing and that she had 24 hours to live and had no other option but to deliver baby Luke. Sadly, he died. Taylor has beaten the odds and has since returned home to Bear River to her husband and five children. She now has been given a year to live.

According to the ITunes editors’ notes, In her final days, Kathy has pledged herself to supporting her family and you can help them too. When you buy Kathy’s cover of Sarah McLachlan’s ”I Will Remember You,” all proceeds from each sale of the track will be donated to Kathy’s Miracle Fund.

In a recent interview with the Standard Examiner, Taylor’s mother Patricia Mueller Tazelaar described her daughter as a wonderful mother who sacrificed everything to have a family.

“She always wanted to have children and she is a remarkable mother,” she said. “She has the most beautiful singing voice you have ever heard and since she was a little girl she wanted to have a career in singing, but she has always put her family first.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
