Chamber Orchestra Ogden performs Sept. 25, 2021, at Peery's Egyptian Theater.

Chamber Orchestra Ogden opens the new year with the ninth annual Red Dress Concert on Jan. 29 with the world premiere of Alfonso Tenreiro’s Piano Concerto No. 1 performed by Nicholas Maughan.

An accomplished pianist, collaborator and composer, Maughan is currently the company pianist at Ballet West and a member of Chamber Orchestra Ogden. He will perform a piano solo of Tenreiro’s new Concerto for Piano inside Ogden’s historic Peery’s Egyptian Theater at the 7:30 p.m. concert.

Venezuelan-born Tenreiro is an award-winning composer who teaches at Saint Joseph Catholic Schools and is music director at Saint Florence Catholic Church and Holy Family Catholic Church. His award-winning compositions have been performed and recorded in Venezuela and the United States by the Utah Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Lansing Symphony, Chamber Orchestra Ogden and Ogden Camerata.

Tenreiro’s Piano Concerto No. 1 will be the finale in the four-piece program that opens with the overture to Rossini’s opera “La Gazza Ladra” (The Thieving Magpie) followed by the Adagio movement from one of Mozart’s top works for winds, Serenade No. 10 in B-flat.

Part of the “Mighty Five” Russian composers of the 19th century, Alexander Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia” will also be performed along with Ballade in A minor, Op. 33 by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, which is one of his best-known works.

“It is a powerful composition that leaves no doubt that the 23-year-old composer made his mark in the world as a composer,” Chamber Orchestra Ogden stated in a release.

The Red Dress Concert is sponsored by Ogden Regional Medical Center in honor of the upcoming American Heart Month. COO asks that attendees please wear red to the concert.

Tickets are $8 and may be purchased online at ogdenpet.com/tickets or by phone at 801-689-8700. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour before the concert begins. Students ages 8-18, active military, veterans and their families are admitted without charge to all COO concerts.

COO, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, wishes to recognize the Peery’s Egyptian Theater for its in-kind support of the orchestra’s concerts and the theater staff for their help. “We extend our grateful thanks to Weber County RAMP, Ogden City, the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, the Lawrence T. & Janet T. Dee Foundation, the Stewart Foundation, The Richard K. and Shirley S. Hemingway Foundation, the Utah Legislature, Utah Arts and Museums, and our wonderful individual donors, for their support.”
