Weber State Theatre presents one of the biggest off-Broadway musical hits in history at WSU’s Eccles Theatre starting this weekend and running through March 5. Director Andrew Barratt Lewis anticipates the small theater to sell out quickly due to the show’s popularity and advises would-be attendees to get their tickets early.

“A favorite of audiences the world over including the Wasatch Front, ‘Nunsense’ began its spectacular run on December 12, 1985. After more than 3,672 performances, the show is still going strong and has produced six sequels and three spin-offs,” states a media release.

“Nunsense,” with book, lyrics and music by Dan Goggin, is about the surviving nuns of Hoboken who start a variety show to raise money to bury the sisters they lost after a food poisoning tragedy and end up giving the performance of a lifetime. The “show-stopping musical revue is filled with song and dance, laughter, and characters so quirky they’re almost heavenly,” reads the event page.

According to Lewis, with recent wins at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in lighting, dramaturgy, props and more, Weber State Theatre’s creative talent both on and off the stage makes this production a must-see.

“Former students are currently starring in leading roles in national productions, like Kalyn West in ‘The Prom,’ and designing lighting for several Broadway shows,” he said. “‘Nunsense’ provides the perfect showcase for the highly talented young actors and technicians who will become the stars of tomorrow. But you can see them for a bargain rate today!”

“Nunsense” is a family-friendly production at the Eccles Theater in WSU’s Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts presented by Weber State Theatre. Evening performances this Friday and Saturday and March 2-5 begin at 7:30 p.m. and there are Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children and seniors, and $10 for groups of 10 or more.

Tickets can be purchased at weberstatetickets.com.
