Zach Nunnally and Daxton Petersen take a break in the back of the Warlock. Whether navigating Orem traffic or hauling heavy rocketry equipment along the Pony Express Trail, the Crew Cab proved to be a versatile companion for the neighborhood crew.

Having a bright blue pickup truck with a rumbling V8 in the driveway just felt right here in Utah! When the 2026 Ram 1500 Warlock Crew Cab arrived in our driveway for a weeklong test, finished in striking Hydro Blue Pearl, it was impossible not to notice it. The bold color, blacked-out trim and lifted stance made the truck look ready for anything–from the daily commute to work to a dusty adventure out in the west desert.

And as it turned out, the Ram got to do both.

We spent the week putting the Warlock through its paces just like most truck owners would–driving to work, running errands and making the occasional hardware store stop. But Saturday brought a special outing when we loaded up a few neighborhood kids and headed west along the historic Pony Express Trail for a model rocket launch with the Utah Rocket Club.

It was the kind of day that reminded us exactly why a truck like the Ram 1500 still has such a loyal following.

A Warlock with attitude

An early morning sunrise in Utah highlights the striking Hydro Blue Pearl paint of the 2026 Ram 1500 Warlock Crew Cab. The Warlock’s blacked-out trim and aggressive stance stood out in the driveway before heading out for a week of testing.

The Warlock name has been around in Ram’s lineup for years and has always represented a more aggressive, off-road-inspired appearance package. For 2026, the Warlock continues that tradition with a look that stood out even in a parking lot full of trucks.

Our tester’s Hydro Blue Pearl paint drew attention everywhere we went during the week. The vivid blue contrasted perfectly with the truck’s black grille, black bumpers and dark badging. Ram also added black fender flares, skid plates and unique wheels to give the Warlock a tougher stance than the standard Ram 1500.

The Crew Cab configuration offered four full-size doors and plenty of room inside, while the slightly lifted suspension gave the truck a commanding view of the road. Around the valley, it felt right at home cruising through Springville, Provo and Orem traffic.

But the Warlock’s styling also hinted that it was ready to leave the pavement whenever the opportunity arose.

HEMI power still roars

Bradley Nunnally and Daxton Petersen prep their rocketry gear by the Ram 1500 Warlock's tailgate. The truck's spacious bed served as an ideal staging area for a morning of adventure and high-powered launches in the Utah desert.

Under the hood of our tester was a familiar engine that many truck buyers still love: the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V8.

In an era where many trucks are moving toward smaller turbocharged engines or hybrids, there’s still something extremely satisfying about the deep rumble of a naturally aspirated V8. The HEMI produced plenty of power for everyday driving and delivered strong acceleration when merging onto the Interstate or passing slower traffic on a highway.

Throughout the week, the engine felt smooth and confident. Whether heading to work in the morning or making a quick run to the grocery store after dinner, the Ram always had power in reserve.

Fuel economy was, of course, the trade-off with a big V8. Over the course of our week of mixed driving — including highway commuting, city errands and a dusty trip into the west desert — we averaged 16.6 miles per gallon. For a full-size pickup with a traditional V8 engine, that’s right about what we would have expected.

And for many truck enthusiasts, the sound and feel of the HEMI is worth every gallon.

The interior of the 2026 Ram 1500 Warlock combines rugged capability with modern comfort. During the trip to the west desert, the intuitive infotainment system and spacious cabin kept the kids entertained and the driver relaxed.

Comfortable daily driver

One of the reasons the Ram 1500 continues to stand out in the full-size truck segment is its comfortable ride and refined interior.

Even in the more rugged Warlock trim, the Ram felt surprisingly smooth on the road. The suspension absorbs bumps well, and daily drives along Interstate 15 during our commute were easy and relaxing.

Inside, the Crew Cab provided plenty of space for passengers in both rows. The rear seats have generous legroom, making it easy to carry family members, coworkers or — as we found out — excited kids headed for a rocket launch on the desert.

Ram has also done a nice job designing the cabin. Controls were simple and easy to reach, and the infotainment system responded quickly. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity made it simple to bring our music, navigation and messages along for the ride, the kids had if figured out in no time and included their tunes on our adventure.

Throughout the week the truck proved itself perfectly capable as an everyday vehicle. Of course, the real fun came when we pointed the Ram toward the open desert.

A Saturday on the Pony Express Trail

Saturday morning arrived with clear skies and the promise of a great day outdoors. We loaded up the Ram with a few neighborhood kids, all of our rocketry gear and plenty of excitement before heading west out of Utah Valley toward the open desert.

Our destination was a launch site along the historic Pony Express Trail, where the Utah Rocket Club was hosting one of its regular model rocket launch events.

If you’ve never attended one of these gatherings, it’s quite a sight. Enthusiasts bring everything from small beginner rockets to impressive high-powered models capable of soaring thousands of feet into the air.

The drive out there was exactly the kind of trip where a truck like the Ram Warlock would shine. As pavement eventually gave way to dusty desert roads, the truck’s suspension and ground clearance made the journey easy. The wide-open landscape stretched for miles, and the Ram felt perfectly at home rumbling across the terrain.

When we arrived, the kids piled out of the truck, eyes wide as rockets began launching one after another.

Rockets and desert skies

Throughout the morning, we watched dozens of rockets blast skyward, leaving trails of smoke against the bright blue sky.

Some of the smaller rockets popped off the launch pad with a quick hiss before parachuting gently back to the ground. Others roared upward with impressive speed, disappearing into the sky before drifting back down far out in the desert.

The neighborhood kids we brought along were thrilled. They helped prepare a few rockets for launch, counting down as the ignition button was pressed and cheering as each rocket shot upward.

The Ram’s spacious bed proved useful as a staging area for gear, water bottles and backpacks. Having a truck along made it easy to carry everything needed for a morning in the desert.

Built for Utah adventures

Utah offers an incredible variety of landscapes — from mountain highways to desert trails — and trucks like the Ram 1500 are well suited for exploring them.

The Warlock trim added some off-road capability with its upgraded suspension, skid plates and all-terrain tires. While we didn’t push the truck to its limits during our trip, it handled the dirt roads and uneven terrain easily.

Back on the highway heading home later that afternoon, the Ram returned to its role as a comfortable cruiser. The quiet cabin and smooth ride made the drive back to Utah Valley relaxing after a fun morning in the desert.

At the end of the week

After a week with the 2026 Ram 1500 Warlock Crew Cab, it was easy to understand why trucks like this remain so popular.

The bold styling stood out, the HEMI V8 delivered classic pickup power and the comfortable interior makes it easy to live with every day. Add in the capability to venture off the pavement when adventure calls, and the Warlock becomes an appealing option for many truck buyers.

And if you happen to hear the rumble of a HEMI echoing across those desert hills, there’s a good chance someone is out there enjoying a day just like we did.
